Nilesh Bhange

Nilesh Bhange paper abstract work. Bhange's work links back to my idea of sculpture and the freedom of shapes etc. the beauty he/she catches and portrays of this simple form of media is something very inspiring. Although steering away from the smoke art, Bhange's sculptural photography is beautiful. Click the link to check out the work.

MUNDY HEPBURN- LUMUNIOUS GLASS ARTIST

MUNDY HEPBURN "MUNDY HAS MADE A NAME FOR HIMSELF WITH A UNIQUE STYLE OF ART - LUMINOUS GLASS. A PIONEER IN THIS ART FORM, MUNDY COMBINES TECHNOLOGY WITH ART TO CREATE A NEW BREED OF MOVING, LIVING ART.

ALTHOUGH MUNDY IS OBVIOUSLY AN ARTIST, I LOVED HIS LARGE INSTALLATIONS AND HIS USE OF THE WIDER BIGGER SPACE, COMBINING HIS ART WITH ITS CRUCIAL SETTING. I INVISAGE MY FINAL PIECE ON A LARGE SCALE USING LIGHT LIQUID AND COLOUR AND VIDEOING ITS EFFECT. MAYBE I SHOULD NARROW IT MORE TO PHOTOGRAPHY HOWEVER....

MARTIN WAUGH- LIQUID SCULPTURE

MARTIN WAUGH
"MARTIN WAUGH COMBINES ART AND SCIENCE TO CAPTURE NATURE'S INFINITE BEAUTY. MARTIN'S CREATIVE USES OF HIGH-SPEED PHOTOGRAPHY MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO CAPTURE THE SMOOTH AND EFFORTLESS CURVES OF LIQUID, ELICITING A CHILDLIKE SENSE OF FUN AND WHIMSY. INTERPRETATIONS OF HIS WORK OFTEN REVEAL AS MUCH ABOUT THE VIEWER AS THE ARTIST. HIS IMAGES ARE ENGAGING METAPHORS FOR LIFE AND ARE AS INTRIGUING TO THE EYE AS THEY ARE THOUGHT PROVOKING."

FRIDAY INSPIRATION

AFTER CONSIDERING DOING SCULPTURE WITHIN THIS PHOTOGRAPHY UNIT, I CAME UPON THE IDEA OF LIGHT AND LIQUID SCULPTURES AND MIXING THE TWO. FOR MY GCSE ART AND DESIGN I EXPERIMENTED WITH PLASTIC FROM MILK CARTONS AND MOULDED THE PLASTIC INTO A BODICE USING A HOT GLUE GUN. THEREFORE THIS LEAD ME ONTO THE IDEA OF TAKING THIS FURTHER AND EXPERIMENTING WITH THIS IN MY PHOTOGRAPHY UNIT. THIS COULD THEN INCORPORATE LIGHT AND FEED IN WITH THE LIQUID LIGHT SCULPTURES I WANTED TO CREATE......

THE VIDEO TAKEN FROM YOUTUBE WAS MY INITAL INSPRATION INTO FLUID SCULPTURES BY CASUALPROFANITY I LOVE HOW YOU ARE ALMOST HYPNOTIZED BY THE LIQUIDS MOVEMENT AND MIXED WITH NEON LIGHTS I THINK THIS WOULD BE A VERY INTERESTING THEME TO FOLLOW

EXPERIMENTING WITH MILK, KETCHUP AND NAIL VARNISH I USED THE THICK LIQUID OF THE MILK TO CONTAIN THE OTHER SUBSTANCES. WITH THE KETCHUP IT WAS A MUCH DENSER SUBSTANCES THEREFORE DIDN'T LIE ON THE MILK WELL, BUT INSTEAD CREATED LARGE CLUMPS. EVEN THOUGH THIS WAS UNSUCCESSFUL TO SOME EXTENT, THE IMAGE TAKEN DOES REMIND ME OF SOMETHING YOU WOULD ASSOCIATE WITH DECAY OR MOULD, DEPICTING E.COLI MAYBE? I DON'T KNOW.

HOWEVER AS THE NAIL VARNISH WAS A THINNER SUBSTANCES THAN THE MILK IT LAY ON THE SURFACE ALLOWING FOR ME TO CREATE A VISUALLY ATTRACTIVE PATTERN, AS THE VARNISH DRIED IT ALSO CREATED A FILM LAYER OVER THE TOP OF THE MILK.

HERE ARE A FEW TEST SHOTS OF THE EXPERIMENTATION PROCESS TAKEN BY MYSELF AND A SMALL VIDEO TO SHOW HOW I DID IT.

LIQUID AUDIO

AFTER VISITING THE BALTIC IN NEWCASTLE AND STUDYING THE WORKS OF BOTH ARTISTS I CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT I WANTED TO INCORPORATE VIDEO INTO MY OWN WORK AND EXPERIMENT WITH VARIOUS VIDEO PROGRAMS. PREVIOUS TO THIS I HAD BEEN LOOKING AT VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE ABOUT LIQUID AUDIO WHICH I FOUND VERY INTERESTING AND UNIQUE...

ELIZABETH PRICE

ELIZABETH PRICE
THIS IMAGE IS NOT MY OWN
WHEN I VIEWED THE EXHIBITION OF ELIZABETH PRICES WORK, THE WIDE OPEN SPACE AND LARGE INSTALLATION REALLY INTRIGUED ME AND ADDED TO HER CONTROVERSIAL ART. THE ROOM WAS COMPLETELY DARK, DESPITE THE VIDEO PLAYING OVER ON A LARGE PROJECTION. STOOD WITH MANY OTHER VIEWERS IN THE EXHIBITION I WAS APPREHENSIVE TO MOVE, AND I THINK IT WAS A FEELING ENDURED BY ALL. WITH THE ROOM BEING SO DARK THE FEAR OF BUMPING OR KNOCKING SOMEONE OVER, AND THAT SENSE OF INTIMACY, TOTAL DARKNESS WITH STRANGERS, NOT KNOWING WHO WAS STOOD SO CLOSE OR THE OPPORTUNITY TO INVADE SOMEONE’S PERSONAL SPACE ADDED TO HER EXHIBITION. DIVIDED BETWEEN THREE SEPARATE AREAS , EACH AREA CATERED FOR THE NEEDS OF THE PIECE, AND GAVE A SECLUDED FEELING FROM THE REST OF THE EXHIBITION. ELIZABETH PRICE STATED “THE IDEA OF A LOCATION IS THE BASIS IN EACH WORK FOR THE DRAMA, FOR THE ACTION..” MY MAIN FOCAL POINT WAS THE VIDEO WEST HINDER, BASED ON A SETTING OF A SHIP AT SEA AND THE LOOS OF CARGO OF 3000 LUXURY CARS. PRICE PINPOINTS THE LOSS BY SHOWCASING THE BEAUTY AND LUXURY OF THE CARS WITHIN THE VIDEO. THE EROSION OF THESE CARS IMMERSING INTO THE SEA IS LIKE A PARODY OF WHAT WE USUALLY EXPECT FROM THIS SYMBOLIC INVENTION.  ANOTHER PART OF THE EXHIBITION WAS THE VIDEO CHOIR, THE MULTIPLE VOICES WITHIN THE VIDEO AND USE OF HIGHLY SATURATED IMAGERY, CREATES AN ALMOST HAUNTING EFFECT ON THE VIEWER WHEN WATCHING IT WITHIN THE SETTING IT IS PRESENTED. ALL OF THE VIDEOS INCORPORATE SOME TYPE OF STRUCTURE, WHETHER IT IS THE ARCHITECTURAL STRUCTURE OF THE CHOIR TO THE MECHANICAL STRUCTURE OF THE CAR, ALLOWING ME TO DEVELOP MY IDEAS INTO STRUCTURAL FORMS.
ANDREA ZITTEL

ANDREA ZITTLE

ANDREA ZITTLE

LAY MY LAND, “ANDRÉA ZITTEL IS MOST CLOSELY ASSOCIATED WITH THE REMARKABLE UTOPIAN STRUCTURES SHE CALLS ‘WAGON STATIONS’ WHICH EXPLORE WHAT HUMANS NEED FOR SURVIVAL IN DIFFERENT WAYS. ZITTEL’S PROJECTS ARE DEEPLY ROOTED IN HER DAILY LIFE AND DELVE INTO ARCHITECTURE, PAINTING, PHOTOGRAPHY, DESIGN, TEXTILES, NEEDLEWORK AND COOKING. AT THE BEGINNING OF THE LAST DECADE ZITTEL FOUNDED A-Z WEST IN THE REMOTE CALIFORNIA DESERT AND BEGAN CREATING THE ‘WAGON STATIONS’ UNITS IN WHICH EVERYDAY ACTIVITIES SUCH AS SLEEPING, EATING, COOKING AND SOCIALISING COULD BECOME ARTISTIC ACTIONS”  ZITTLES WORK WAS VERY DIFFERENT TO ANYTHING I HAD SEEN BEFORE. I WAS STRUCK BY THE EXTENSIVE DEVELOPMENT OF ARCHITECTURE AND GREAT INTEREST AND RESEARCH INTO CREATING A COLLECTION OF DIFFERENT STATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH VARIOUS PLACES AND SETTINGS AND NEEDS. WHEN FIRST SEEING THEM, IT LOOKED LIKE A CAMPING SITE WITHIN THE EXHIBITION, LITTLE STATIONS SET UP EVERYWHERE AS IF THEY WERE CARAVANS OF SOME SORT. LOOKING INSIDE THEY WERE HEAVILY DECORATED AND HAD MANY SYMBOLIC ITEMS AND SYMBOLS ASSOCIATED WITH THE WAGONS THEME. I WANTED ONE MYSELF. SOMETHING ABOUT THEM BROUGHT ME BACK TO MY CHILD HOOD IN WHICH I WOULD CREATE MY OWN ‘STATIONS’ WITH PILLOWS AND DUVETS FOR FUN AND ENTERTAINMENT, THERE WAS SOMETHING CREATIVE AND INNOCENT ABOUT THE EXHIBITION THAT WAS VERY REFRESHING. THERE WAS ALSO A VIDEO INCORPORATED INTO THE EXHIBITION, ABOUT ZITTEL’S EVERYDAY LIFE AND REGIME, I WASN’T SO STRUCK ABOUT THIS, ALTHOUGH PEOPLE CROWED ROUND WITH INTEREST THE WAGON STATIONS AND LARGE INSTALLATIONS WHERE MUCH MORE INTERESTING AND I THINK THEM ALONE COULD HAVE BEEN ENOUGH TO MAKE THIS EXHIBITION AS INFLUENTIAL AS I FOUND IT.
